What data does Forkcast collect?
We collect only what’s necessary to run the app: items you add to your inventory (barcodes, names, expiry dates), optional receipt images you upload, and basic account info (email for sign-in). Nothing else is collected by default.
Do you sell my data or share it with advertisers?
No. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to advertisers. We only use data to power Forkcast features and — with explicit opt-in — to enable integrations (Instacart, roommate sync).
Do you sell my data or share it with advertisers?
By default, inventory is stored locally on your device for privacy and speed. You can enable encrypted cloud sync if you want to keep data across devices.
What is “Privacy Mode” and how do I enable it?
Privacy Mode disables cloud sync and all optional sharing features. Enable it in Settings → Privacy. When on, your data remains only on your device and never touches our servers.
Do you read my receipt images?
No human reads your receipt images. If you opt into receipt parsing, our system extracts item names locally when possible; any server-side processing is automated, and raw images are auto-deleted after 7 days unless you choose otherwise.
Which permissions does the app request and why?
Camera: for barcode/receipt scans.
Notifications: for spoilage reminders and meal prompts (opt-in).
We request only these and explain each permission in the prompt.
How long do you keep my data?
Local inventory persists until you delete it. If you enable cloud sync, encrypted data is retained until you request deletion. Receipt images and temporary logs are auto-deleted after 7–30 days (configurable in Settings).
How can I delete my data?
Go to Settings → Account → Delete My Data. You can delete local inventory, cloud backups, and any uploaded receipts. We’ll remove your data from active systems and provide confirmation when deletion is complete.
Is my data encrypted and secure?
Yes. Data in transit uses TLS. Encrypted cloud sync uses end-to-end encryption (we store only encrypted blobs unless you opt-in otherwise). We follow security best practices and vet third-party vendors.
What do you share with integrations like Instacart or roommates?
Integrations are opt-in. For Instacart we share only the gap-only shopping list you choose to send. For roommate sync we share only the specific pantry lists you select. You control who sees what.
Can I use Forkcast without an account?
Yes. You can use the app locally without creating an account. Creating an account enables cloud sync, multi-device use, and group features.
What analytics do you collect?
We collect minimal, aggregated usage metrics (e.g., how many people used “What can I make?”) for product improvement. We use privacy-friendly analytics that don’t track individual item-level inventories.
What happens to my data if I uninstall the app?
If you never created an account or enabled cloud sync, uninstalling removes local data from your phone. If you enabled cloud sync, your encrypted backup remains until you delete it via Settings or request a full data removal.
How do you comply with privacy laws (CCPA/GDPR)?
We follow core principles: data minimization, user access/deletion rights, and transparent notice. If you’re covered by a regulation and want to exercise a data-right (access/delete/port), contact privacy@forkcast.me and we’ll respond within legal timeframes.
I’m a student — do you share data with my university or advertisers?
No. We don’t share inventory or usage data with third parties unless you explicitly opt in (e.g., campus program that you join). We will never sell student data.
